After Jackson’s bedroom makeover last fall, we put his “nursery” chair back in his room because we still enjoyed snuggling at bedtime to read stories. While we obviously still love those snuggles, I wanted to give Jackson a little more space in his small room to spread out along with giving him a work space and more storage than his original bookcase provided.

I recently shared ideas for how to save money when designing a child’s space. They’re only little for so long and it can get costly continuing to make over their rooms as they grow older. I wanted to find furniture that was not only beautiful in his bedroom, but pieces that were durable enough and classic in style to last through his childhood and adolescent years.
I have been in love with these industrial ladder bookshelves from Nathan James for a long time! I actually considered using the white and gold version in my home office, but ultimately went with these stunning gold etageres instead! Jackson’s room refresh was the perfect time to use them and I LOVE how much storage he has now for his ever growing book collection along with toys, art, and other items he chooses to display as he gets older.
Most of these items were already in his room SOMEWHERE, but they now have a proper home and are easily corralled in woven baskets or in antique containers like my grandfather’s lunch box and Tim’s late father’s lock box.
I chose a real wood desk, also from Nathan James, because I know with all of his artwork and vehicle play, Jackson’s desk will get used hard!
It’s hard to imagine him typing away, writing up a book report in a few shorts years, but I know that time is coming! This desk has a large storage cubby along with a drawer to tuck away belongings.
With the addition of the shelves and desk, the rest of the room needed to be rearranged. The hall tree I loved adding to his room last year no longer works in the space so it has a new home in the upstairs hallway. I actually love it there!
Jackson’s dresser also got a simple but significant makeover! This ink black color from Behr completely changed the feel of this piece and the new Florentine brass drawer pulls from Battle Creek Hardware took this old dresser to a whole new level! This dresser was actually mine as a child and has seen a LOT of makeovers! This one might be my favorite for this old girl. Battle Creek Hardware generously offered a 15% discount on full price items just for my readers with code LINDSEY!
Even though this room has a completely new vibe, we really only added a few new things. Beyond the shelves, desk, and the new paint, I bought this floor lamp to match the wall sconce (which was originally mounted above Jackson’s Lego Table)
It’s crazy how much more open the room feels and how much extra storage now has with only a few swaps. And if you’re curious about Jackson’s nursery rocker, it has a new home in our basement, and it looks SO good in the family room!
