Closet Guest Room

Date

With The Rural Legend doing so well (yay!!!) it’s time for me to have my own work space within our home. For the past year plus, I have been doing all of my creating, writing, and filming from our dining room table, and to say that my craft materials and other tools have exploded all over the house is an understatement. I need my own space!

We live in a 3 bedroom house with one of those bedrooms exclusively dedicated to guests. But with guests only visiting a few times a year, it doesn’t seem practical anymore to leave the guest room mostly unused – and thus it’s becoming my office! I promise there will be lots of updates and posts for that coming later this spring!

There simply isn’t room to accommodate an office AND guest bed all in one space, so we needed a solution for where to store the guest bed. Yes, an inflatable air mattress would be easy to store, but with older parents, offering them an actual bed is very important.

So after lots of thinking and rearranging our home in my brain, I realized that our queen size guest bed fits perfectly into the playroom closet! While this isn’t a solution for everyone reading this post, if you have a large closet to spare, it can be a brilliant way to stow away guest room supplies without sacrificing any of your home’s valuable square footage!

Deciding to move the guest bed became a little bit of a “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” process. If I have my own office, the guest bed needs to move to the playroom closet. Jackson’s Closet Lego table will need to move. Which means we need new Lego storage. It also means Tim will have more space to spread out in our shared office (which I never use because he works from home!) And then there’s a whole brand new office space for me to design and style!

But for now, I’m excited to share our new Guest Closet. Everything our future guests need is neatly stored in one spot. When it’s time to prepare the space, we can easily set up the bed frame, box spring and mattress. And the already existing closet shelf holds all of the bedding, towels, and necessities for guests!

To make the space a little extra special, I added leftover wallpaper from last year’s play room makeover to the back wall of the closet! I may even add a few wall hangings or a clock to the sides to make it feel more like a cozy nook and less like a closet.

Side note, if you’re interested in a few wallpaper tips, I made a reel for Instagram with some easy ways to make sure you hang your wallpaper level!

With the guest room problem solved, it’s time to start focusing on the other projects on our list. Up next, I’ll be sharing how we addressed the issue of where to store and organize all of Jackson’s Lego! I’ve got some great storage ideas and a cute DIY to share, so stay tuned!
