How To Make A Foam Pumpkin Fall Centerpiece

Date

This easy and elegant DIY craft for Fall is a wonderful way to add a little seasonal style to home this Autumn! It can also be individually customized by the size and color of the pumpkin and the type of florals used, meaning you can create a completely unique table centerpiece for your home or to gift this Fall!

Where to source your pumpkin

I found several orange foam pumpkins at my local thrift store last fall for $4! If you can’t find one while thrifting, craft stores like Michael’s sell them affordably – especially when you use a coupon for extra savings!

A plastic jack-o-lantern would also be a great option if you’re going for more of a Halloween vibe!

What you need

  • A pumpkin of your choice – here are some affordable options
  • optional – paint in your choice of color (see step one for tips)
  • florals of your choice – see my favorite faux florals of the season here

I found my dried florals at Home Goods this week. I love the pink gypso paired with the black bunny tails and awesome preserved mushrooms!!!

How to make it

1. If you wish to change the color of you pumpkin, you will want to do that first. I recommend using spraying paint with a primer built in like this kind. Acrylic paint would also work well. To add texture to your pumpkin give give it an even more elevated look, you can try this simple paint technique.

2. Start by cutting a whole in the top of your pumpkin just like you would a real pumpkin. You can use a regular kitchen knife or craft knife for this.

3. Begin adding florals one type at a time. For simple tips on how to arrange flowers like a pro – don’t miss this post!

To save money on this simple craft, use florals that you’ve dried yourself for free! Don’t miss my easy tutorial for how to dry flowers from your garden

For a fresh floral arrangement, insert a vase or glass into your pumpkin that will hold water. You may need to adjust the size of the pumpkin opening to accommodate your vase.

How to style your Pumpkin Centerpiece.

The rule of thumb for styling is to group things in odd numbers. I added this large black tray to my dining table first to ground the grouping. Side Note – that stunning tray is actually an upcycled bird bath! See how I made it here!

Group items in differing heights. For my centerpiece, my pumpkin is the tallest object paired with a slightly shorter thrifted brass candlestick and a thrifted silver pitcher.

Beyond using this floral pumpkin as a table centerpiece, it would also look wonderful styled on a console table or even a coffee table!
