Our backyard is one of our very favorite places on Earth, but it’s taken us years of hard work to make it that way! Come along for a tour of our own little oasis – plus I’ll share how we were able to save money on creating this dream space!

When we moved into our home almost 7 years ago, there was a tiny concrete slab patio in the backyard surrounded by a half height brick wall. One of the hugest transformations we made was swapping out our small concrete pad for a sprawling paver patio complete with dining and conversation areas. If you missed that huge makeover, all of the details on our patio can be found in this post!
This year we opted for a more European courtyard feel to this outdoor space. I added these striking black and white rugs from RugsUSA in bold patterns. While this is not sponsored by them, RugsUSA is almost always my go-to for affordable rugs for inside AND outside!

We absolutely love having the space to sprawl out, entertain, and watch the fireflies on late summer nights.
Our dining set it no longer sold, but the rattan seating adds texture and depth to our space. I swapped out our dining cushions for these this year. They are incredibly plush and wash easily!
We built a sunken firepit patio at the back of our property 4 summers ago, which dramatically changed the feel of our outdoor space! You can read all about that DIY here! By completing this labor of love ourselves, we were able to save about $4,000!

Having a place to sit by the fire and chat with friends and family has been such a blessing! And it’s an area of our yard that we use 3 out of the 4 seasons!
On nights where we don’t want to smell like a campfire, we turn on our gas fire pit table in our conversation area. It’s really great having 2 options for warmth, but the fire table also serves as a large coffee table when we entertain!
Probably one of my favorite features of our backyard is our outdoor movie screen that we made with PVC piping. These large sofas pull apart to become smaller love seats that we turn toward the yard to create stadium seating for summer movie features!

Last year we added a raised garden bed area between the patio and the house. These metal modular raised beds are beautiful, easy to keep clean, and are made out of sustainable materials!

I love that from most seats, you can look out at our landscaping and all of the stunning colors of the seasons. It is truly a gift to have this small piece of land and it was one of the main selling features that made us fall in love with our home!
