I love my Instagram Community of followers – especially when they send me images of décor and tell me, “I think you could make this!” Recently someone sent me an image of these beautiful brass sconces from Terrain and I immediately said, challenge accepted!

After a few trips to the thrift store, I found 2 plastic oval shape plates for $2 each and a pair of skinny wooden candle sconces for $2 each. Total for this project so far was $8! For projects like this, I love to use construction adhesive because I know my creation is holding together forever! I’m quite sure you could use a strong super glue as well, but better safe than sorry!
Once I let the adhesive cure, I spray painted the sconces black before giving them a coat of gold metallic spray paint. This gives the surfaces and antique gold/brass look that mimics the look of the Terrain sconces. For added depth, I applied a small amount of Rub n Buff in Grecian Gold to random spots on the sconces.
I will only use battery candles for these sconces to make sure the plastic does not melt. But how cute are these?! Is this a DIY you’d try at home? Let me know in the comments! And if you make some, tag me @therurallegend so I can share your creation in my stories!
