Easy DIY Textured Art

Date

I had a few framed canvases that used to hang in our guest room, but aren’t really my style anymore. Instead of selling or donating them, I decided to upcycle them into neutral textured art for our family room.

This DIY is so simple and only requires a few materials! And because I already had all of the materials, this art was completely free to make!

How to make it

If you want your frame to be a different color than your art, start by taping off the frame to keep it clean.

Apply spackle compound directly to your canvas with your palette knife or spatula. There is no wrong way to do this DIY! Make sure the entire canvas is covered and continue to move the compound around to create texture. For one of my pieces I crated a checkerboard pattern and with the other I made random strokes for a more abstract look.

Once you are happy with the texture you’ve created, allow the compound to completely dry. Paint your art any color you like.

I chose to spray paint the entire piece including the fame a flat white, but these art would look stunning in any color – matte black would be so dramatic!

Once the paint is dry, hang your art proudly because you just made gorgeous and unique textured art!
