Slowly, our dining room is becoming moody, cozy, and a little bougie! It all started with that fabulous wall candelabra I scored on Facebook Marketplace for $25 and I just can’t stop adding small pops of antique gold and vintage accents for a high end look at a remarkably low price point!
I found this gorgeous oil painting of daffodils at Goodwill recent for $1.99! The yellow and green tones are a whole vibe when I hold them up to the moody wall color of the dining room! (Benjamin Moore Nocturnal Gray)
I had planned to ask Tim to make a frame for me for this thrifted score, but I randomly (or maybe not so random) I found a stunning antique frame at a local home décor shop for $19. By the time Time had bought ornate trim and spent the time making my frame, it would have cost more than $19 so I scooped this beauty up!
The glossy crackly cream paint was pretty, but definitely not the look I was going for. In order to add depth and a gilded look to this frame, I applied several coats of Rub N Buff in Grecian gold to all the surfaces. If you’ve never worked with rub n buff, it’s a tinted wax that can turn any surface into a gorgeous metallic finish. And the more you rub, the higher the sheen! You can apply it with a gloved finger, a paint brush, or rag.
Simply painting this frame would have looks a little flat, so going with an inexpensive and easy product like Rub n Buff was definitely the way to go.
While this frame is absolutely stunning, it wasn’t quite the right size for my thrifted painting. I simply hot glued the canvas to the back of the frame to hold everything in place. You’d never know it’s not a perfect fit and this painting looks like a high end museum quality work of art!
The total cost of this little makeover was $23 with the cost of materials. And it looks like a million bucks!
