Our Garage Mudroom

Date

We don’t have a large entryway at the front of our home and we don’t have a space big enough inside our garage door to have a dedicated drop zone without looking extremely messy and cluttered. Using PAX systems from Ikea, we converted a small portion of our garage into a “mudroom” when we first moved in 5 years ago. We have not done a good job keeping it tidy and it was time for some reorganization.

I also wanted to add a seating area and a little more shoe storage because my son keeps most of his shoes in the garage versus in the closet like we do.

We did a little rearranging, moving our out of commission chest freezer turned kegerator to the basement which allowed us to slide the cabinetry down. Not only did this free up space for a seating area, but it also gives us more room to pull our SUV into our small garage! No more squeezing between the front of the car and closet system!

I grabbed matching wood hangers for all of our coats and went through all of the mesh drawers to purge and reorganize with clear bins. We also added this bench with shoe storage and hooks so that it’s easy for our son to put on his shoes and grab his coat!

We are loving how much more open the space feels with the PAX systems pushed down and I love how much more organized it all feels by putting everything into bins INSIDE the mesh baskets! Stay tuned for more organization this week for our garage pantry!
