Playroom Refresh and My Favorite Storage Ideas

Date

Last week, I shared that I am transforming our guest room into my office! The guest bed got a new home downstairs in the playroom closet, which you can read all about here! With the playroom closet now occupied by all of the things our guests will need during their stay, I needed to come up with a new way to store all of my son’s Lego.

While I was searching Pinterest I came across this photo that stopped me in my scrolling tracks! Clear acrylic bins show off all of the beautiful colors of Lego and keep everything so nicely organized. My only task was figuring out which sizes worked the best with our cube storage shelf from Ikea. I found 2 sizes that work perfectly for Jackson’s ever growing collection!

Jackson mostly uses the play room coffee table to build – even when he had an entire desk in the closet previously – so I wasn’t concerned about replacing that. Side note: After months of agonizing over what color to paint this coffee table, I decided I’m going to strip it down to the raw wood. I learned an awesome family story about this table a few months ago and I just have to show it off! Stay tuned for a future post all about the history of this table!

I ended up rearranging the entire playroom, which was just the refresh this room needed to feel more cozy and meet our needs. It feels more like a family room now and less like a room that’s stuffed to the gills with toys.

I think the space looks so much better with the couch in front of the window again. And both our dog and cat agree because this couch is where they spend all of their time now!

I created a large gallery wall opposite the couch, which includes the TV that used to be mounted inside the closet. The wallpapered side of the room is so heavy with large pieces of furniture, so filling this wall with framed artwork and family photos helps to ground and balance the space.

And our new DIY Lego display works in perfectly with the gallery wall! If you missed the easy tutorial, you can find it here!

Other than our new acrylic Lego bins, I was able to reuse storage bins we already owned. But that didn’t stop me from collecting all my favorite storage pieces to share with you! If I was starting from scratch with play room storage I wouldn’t be able to resist these beauties!
