The Holiday Wreath Anyone Can Make

I’ve done several polls on Instagram in stories and the consensus seems to be that wreaths are intimidating to make. I am fortunate to have a very talented wreath maker as a mom who has shown me her tricks over the years. And I want to share my easy and affordable tips for wreath making with you because ANYONE can make a wreath! Don’t let you self doubt talk you about of trying!

And the best part about this wreath is that it’s very inexpensive to make. In fact, all of your materials outside of your hot glue gun can be foraged, repurposed or thrifted if you want, making this a sustainable way to make something beautiful for your home on a budget! So if you’re willing to try to let me prove you can make a wreath, start with this one! Because there was definitely a time that I was intimidated too!

wreath reminders

Anything can be removed and used again. With wreaths, you use hot glue or floral wire to attach items, so you can easily rip something off and reposition it if you don’t like the placement.

Don’t forget that you can stage your stems! If you’re intimated to start gluing, insert everything first as a trial run and rearrange as desired. If you like how it all looks, glue everything in one at a time.

Step back every so often to look at your work. Just like an artist admiring their canvas, take the time to hang up your wreath and look at where you might have some empty spots.

Upcycle old wreaths by pulling out the florals and stems and repurposing them!!

What you need

evergreen wreath – fresh or faux – mine is a hand me down from my mom but I’ve seen this style at thrift stores a lot and you can find them inexpensively at craft stores. Pro Tip: For this wreath you don’t need to buy the real touch, lifelike one. We’re adding things to it make it look much more luxe than it is!

eucalyptus – fresh or faux – I upcycled an old garland that I cut into stems for this DIY
pine cone – take a walk and forage!
metallic ornaments – look at thrift stores or spray paint old unwanted ornaments from your own collection! I’ve had these silver balls for 20 years!

How to make it

1. Start by fluffing up your evergreen wreath. Just like you would with an artificial tree, pull each stem out and away from the form to create a full look.

2. Add hot glue to the end of a eucalyptus stem and insert it into the wreath. Once the hot glue cools it still stay in place. For a pro look, make sure to insert your stems facing the same direction each time. Also vary where you insert them whether it be toward the inner ring, the middle or on the outside.

3. Next add in pine cones by adding a generous amount of hot glue to the bottom of each one. Randomly place them for an organic look and step back every so often to see if you need to add more or less

4. Lastly, add in your ornaments by adding hot glue to the top and placing your ornament upside down on the wreath. I like to add things in off numbers so I used 3 large ornaments and then added in a bunch of medium sized and small ones.
