A few years ago, I picked up a large round mirror from Home Goods for $40. It has bounced around our home but has never really found it’s true home. I think part of that it the fact that its silver leaf finish feels too cold with a lot of our styling – but it’s a beautiful mirror none the less!
It ended up in my office and while I love the extra light it brings into the space, it definitely did not compliment the warm moody feminine vibe I’m trying to achieve. Sidenote, if you’ve missed any of the progress in my home office, start here. There’s been so much good progress in this space!
Instead of searching for a new mirror for the space I did some research into round mirrors I might be able to dupe that would be better suited for this space. I fell in love with the Amelie mirror from Arhaus. She retails for almost $500 and my goal was to recreate the look for much less! You can be the final judge, but I’m pretty in love with the results! Here’s how I did it!
What you need
- mirror – use one you have, thrift one, or pick up an inexpensive one like this
- spray paint
- painters tape and paper for masking
- rub n buff
- wood appliques – small | medium | large
- hot glue or super glue
how to make it
I love the look of rub n buff but it can be finicky on certain surfaces. I started by applying rub n buff to the entire mirror, but ultimately spray painted the frame instead. I taped off as much of the mirror as I could, but it’s so easy to scrape off paint from the glass that I didn’t have to worry about being too careful.
I used my favorite gold spray paint on my wood appliques and let them dry.
Next I used super glue to attach them to the frame of the mirror in a similar pattern to the Arhaus mirror. Because super glue doesn’t dry instantly, I held the piece in place with painter’s tape.
While we were hanging the mirror, one of the wood pieces fell off because we accidentally knocked it with a hand so I reattached with hot glue and it’s nice and secure. So pick your preferred adhesive!
I love the glam elegance the gold sculpted accents bring to this wall! It is the perfect piece to blend the feminine wall mural and the vintage dresser! Stay tuned for the full reveal of my home office coming very soon!
