I always seem to be rearranging SOMETHING in our home…do you do that too? I wanted to find a smaller floor lamp or wall sconce lamp for the corner by our fireplace, so obviously I checked the thrift stores first! I found a cute swivel arm floor lamp that is the perfect size! And it was 50% off that day making it a whopping $4 purchase!

I started by cleaning the entire lamp, including the lamp shade! Did you know you can WASH lampshades? I carefully washed the shade with mild soap and warm water and let it thoroughly dry. The shade is the perfect empire shade I wanted and now it’s no longer dingy!

I had a tough time deciding what color to paint the body of the lamp, but in the end I chose a 2 tone look – a black body and gold base. Isn’t she pretty? I found similar style lamps online that retail for over $200, so this was certainly a steal!

As always I used my favorite spray paint Rustoleum Ultra Cover in flat black and Rustoleum Bright Coat Metallic Gold. I painted the body of the lamp black first and allowed the paint to dry according to the directions on the can. Then I taped off the ends of the black portion and also taped on some paper to protect the black while painting the arm and base gold.

I bet you’d never guess I only spent $4 on this beauty, right?
