Spooky Chic Halloween Decor: Easy DIY Crystal Balls
I have a very specific Halloween style. I don’t go all out with Halloween decorations, but I’m a sucker for all things spooky chic—elegant vintage decor that feels dark, moody, and just a little creepy. Over the years, I’ve created elegant Halloween tablescapes, centerpieces, and garlands, but this new DIY project is probably my favorite! And the best part? It includes some thrift store finds, making it even better!

DIY Crystal Balls: Materials You’ll Need
To start this DIY project, I found several brass globe or candle stands at the thrift store over the past few months. They make the perfect base for these easy DIY crystal balls! However, any piece that securely holds a ball for display will work for this project, so let your creativity run wild at your local thrift store!

How to make it
1. Print Your Images
Start by printing your spooky images onto transparent sheets. Be sure to pay attention to the packaging, as it will tell you which side to print on. Print your images at a size smaller than the diameter of your ornament for the best results!
2. Cut Out Your Images
Carefully cut your images into a circular shape, leaving a small tail at the bottom. This tail will help you adjust the image once it’s inside the ornament.
3. Make Your Ball Smokey
Light the candle and hold the flame under the mouth of your ornament. Use caution as the mouth will become very hot! Allow the smoke to circulate around the inside of the ornament.
The longer you do this, the smokier the glass will become, adding to the eerie effect.
4. Add Your Image to the Ball
Roll up your image tightly so that it fits inside the mouth of your ornament. Once inside, the image should unroll, and you can adjust it using the skinny tail left on your image.
5. Display Your Crystal Ball
Choose a pedestal to display your crystal ball! Try finding something secondhand at your local thrift store. Candlesticks, stands, and other bases work great for this! Opt for brass pieces, or paint your base black for an extra spooky vibe.
