As 2024 draws to a close, I’m reflecting on all the incredible DIY projects and home makeovers that made this year unforgettable. From family-friendly transformations to my most emotional room redesign, it’s been an amazing journey. Let’s take a look at some of the major highlights!

From Playroom to Parlour: A Cozy Transformation
Last December, after completing three major room makeovers, we kicked off our fourth project—a bold transformation of our playroom into a sophisticated parlour. Inspired by our visit to the HGTV Dream Home, I decided to color drench the space in a moody shade. Although it felt risky at the time, the results were incredible! The formerly cold room is now the coziest spot in the house—perfect for family movie nights and Lego building.

Making Dreams Come true in my Home Office
Three years ago, we turned our spare bedroom into the headquarters for The Rural Legend. Since then, I’ve been making small but impactful changes as the budget allowed. This past summer, I added the flooring of my dreams and installed wall moulding that elevated the entire space. It now feels like an English estate filled with my favorite thrifted vintage treasures!
My Oldest Furniture Flip Yet
One of my most treasured finds came in the summer of 2023 when I discovered a stunning antique table on Facebook Marketplace. After sitting in our garage for a year, it finally received the makeover it deserved! Stripping away 140 years of finish was a labor of love, but the result is worth it—this antique beauty now graces our kitchen.

Our Unique Take on a guest room
When we moved into The Rural Legend, we didn’t have space for a full guest room. So, we tucked everything away in the large closet of our parlour. Over the summer, I created a cozy retreat for our guests by adding stunning peel-and-stick wallpaper, making it a space they’ll love!
The Makeover That made me cry
Designing rooms for others is nothing new to me, but when my parents asked me to redesign a second room in their home—my childhood bedroom—it was an emotional experience. The transformation, from the deep green walls to the thrifted accents, brought the space back to life, honoring the family heirlooms and the memories that made it so special.

An Adventure-Inspired Bathroom Makeover
In July 2024, our family took a life-changing trip to Iceland, which inspired an exciting bathroom transformation for Jackson. As soon as I saw a graphic wallpaper, it transported me back to our hike on Katla Glacier. We also added moody paint to the trim, cabinets, and doors to give the space a grander feel.

What’s Next: DIY Projects for 2025
As 2024 ends, we don’t have any major projects lined up for next year, but we do have a few items on our home wishlist. Our main goal is to tackle the little projects—the touch-ups, the caulking, the finishing details—that always get pushed aside. These small tasks are essential to creating a polished home, and we’re excited to finally cross them off our list.
Whatever 2025 brings, I know it will be full of inspiration and creative opportunities, and I can’t wait to share them with you. Stay tuned!
